Bring a Bus Lane and Protected Bikeway to Hennepin Ave S
Add your name to show support for street improvements that put people and climate first. Push back against the opposition.
The City of Minneapolis is reconstructing Hennepin Avenue South, a vibrant corridor where people live, work, and play. Both of the current design proposals include dedicated bus lanes, which is great news! As the home of the future METRO E Line, dedicated bus lanes on Hennepin Avenue are essential. Unfortunately, Minneapolis closed its survey on April 16, and some businesses spoke out loudly against transit and bike improvements on this corridor.
Now, Minneapolis is seriously considering design options that don’t include a bike lane, as well as removal of the full-time dedicated bus lanes—on the future E Line bus rapid transit route! This is unacceptable and falls far short of the transportation policy Minneapolis has passed. On top of that, recent policy approvals mean the timing of this project will set the standard for every project within Minneapolis moving forward, and we need to do it right.
Opponents are pushing the “kill by delay” tactic—trying to push back the approval of the project design in order to water it down and paint a picture that these improvements are unnecessary. But they’re wrong–we do need quality transit, biking, and walking on this corridor.
Sign your name to tell Minneapolis you support full-time, dedicated bus lanes and protected bike lanes on Hennepin Ave S—because not only do they align with the City’s existing policies, they are the right thing to do for our climate, our families, and our future.
